The sweet fragrance of the holiday season is in the air. Halloween is done and dealt with but before Santa comes around, there’s Thanksgiving to look forward to!
Turkey, stuffing,mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings. Granddad says a blessing; Nanna serves seconds whether you asked for them or not. Family, tradition, stability, unconditional love. Gobble … gobble … It gives me hope, something to thank for this Thanksgiving Day despite everything going on in the world. I am super excited! Purists may say that, Thanksgiving Day is not complete without a large turkey roast. But really, there is NO REAL evidence that this bird was the centerpiece during the Pilgrim’s first Thanksgiving. In 1621, the feast between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians included wild turkey, waterfowl, venison, fish, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin, and squash. Whatever was plentiful at that time.
So today, due to a growing multi-cultural society, Thanksgiving dinners have taken on new global approaches. Some reinvent basic Thanksgiving ingredients using flavors and techniques from their own cuisines while some replace the turkey centerpiece with foods other than the bird …
